The Coalition for an Independent America is a nonprofit, non-partisan organization committed to securing America's social and economic future by eliminating its dependence on foreign oil. By developing programs that inspire citizens to appreciate the crucial need for America to be free of the dictates of foreign oil contingents, The Coalition will foster a wide base of support for energy policies that are effective and guarantee a secure and productive future for generations of Americans to come.
America's dependence on foreign oil has resulted in a threat that can no longer be ignored. Currently, the United States produces only 7 million of the 20 million barrels of oil it consumes each day. The remainder comes mainly from the Middle East, which controls 70 percent of the earth's oil reserves. America uses 25 percent of all the oil consumed globally - depending on some $700 billion dollars worth of imported oil each year. This unprecedented level of reliance on foreign oil grows larger every day and creates a drag on our economic growth while threatening the very security of our nation.
The Coalition believes that giving control of our country to antagonistic foreign nations must be stopped and can be stopped. It must be stopped to protect our way of life. It can be stopped, because the technology and resources exist to free us - but only if we are united in this effort.
Therefore, our goal over the next year is to build a base of one million members - concerned Americans who come from every business and social sector. We will put together programs that educate every American to our perilous situation, while encouraging our elected officials to make difficult choices that lead to right solutions. It is only through strength in numbers and solid understanding that we can gain the power necessary to take back our independence.
